The sequel to the 2012 blockbuster Avengers, and the 2015 blockbuster Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War, has been released amidst huge fanfare and gargantuan expectations. Avengers: Infinity War is the 19th movie of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and is directed by Russo brothers, who have taken over the mantle from Joss Whedon, after directing previous Marvel flicks like Ant-Man and the Captain America movies. The movie, featuring an ensemble cast, is considered the most grandeur entertainer from Marvel, the ultimate crossover, and one of the most ambitious coming together flick of superheroes. With much riding on it, here's team AP Herald's exclusive first on net Avengers: Infinity War review. Let's see if the Russo Brothers have given the diehard fans of the franchise, a product that's worth the 10-year long wait.
As requested by the makers, Russo brothers themselves, this Avengers: Infinity War review from team AP Herald, will be a 100% spoiler-free review, that will keep the excitement of fans stay alive, and get unleashed when witnessing their superheroes assemble to fight the giant Thanos.
Avengers :Infinity War marks the re-entry of Thanos, who was last seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), and this time around, he is on a mission, as he has the Infinity Gauntlet with him, and targets to bring together the six infinity stones, which are with different Superheros, located at different worlds, in his Gauntlet. The giant Warlord Thanos achieving his mission would mean him getting control over half of the universe, and indulge in destruction, and now, its time for the Avengers who have already witnessed five of the infinity stones, to join hands, forming teams, to fight the mighty Thanos, and stop his evil plans. Did the Avengers bury differences, ego, the bitter past, and come together to foil the plans of Thanos, or whether they succumb to his attack, is what the visual spectacle of the decade, Avengers: Infinity War is all about.
Josh Brolin, as the mighty CG created mad purple Giant Thanos, the principal antagonist, is the powerful show stealer, as he creates a stunning impact whenever he appears on screen with that imposing persona. The way Josh Brolin deals with the superheroes, and his plans to get hold of the 6 infinity stones, are filmed impressively. While he tries to justify each of his actions, just as Gamora says in the trailer, the mission of Thanos has always been to reduce the population, and he keeps reiterating the advantages of achieving his target throughout. The way Thanos has been designed to possess a swag throughout, as he deals even the biggest of superheroes in a casual way, without being geared in a protective shield, and Josh Brolin's perfect and lively body language when Thanos joins Infinity Stones one after the other in his gauntlet, are worth mentioning.
With Marvel offering more fun elements in their outings, like Spiderman: Homecoming, Thor:Ragnarok to name a few, Avengers :Infinity War too is no lesser in terms of humour and fun offered, as the Guardians of Galaxy Team, primarily Groot (Vin Diesel), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Drax (Dave Bautista) and Spidey, compete with each other very well to offer the audience the right dosage of humour. The humorous counters during the conversations between Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Tony Stark and Star-Lord, and most of the one-liners uttered by Spidey are sure to tickle the funny bone,as the Russo Brothers have come up with the best of lines for them to elevate the humour angle in the movie.
Scarlett Johansson as Shield Agent Black Widow, is beauty personified, and while she was expected to rob hearts of the audience, in an unexpected manner, in Avengers: Infinity War, it is Gamora(Zoe Saldana) and Scarlet Witch who entice audience with their perfect performances and on-screen attitude, with Gamora's animated act, being the most impressive. The clashes between Robert Downey Jr (Ironman) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Strange) are a treat to watch, with Spidey(Tom Holland) perfectly complementing the powerful duo, with his naive acts. The Cold war between Captain America and Tony Stark, that extends from the times of Winter Soldier to Civil War, proceeds here as well, with the egos of the superheroes getting the necessary emotional space, to connect with the audience. Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner aka Hulk and Loki offers laughs as well, while the remaining superheroes get their credits as well, in the minimal screen time they receive.
Trent Opaloch's top-notch cinematography captures the spectacular destruction sequences, and the setup and CG of gargantuan proportions associated with a giant like Thanos to perfection, making sure that Avengers: Infinity War is a stunning visual treat. The stunt sequences as Black Panther announces his arrival is a perfect sample of top-class making. Every action sequence of Avengers: Infinity War is heavily elevated by the background score of Alan Silvestri that offers pure goosebumps, with the end credits pathos score, being a unique highlight of his impressive musical score. As Avengers :Infinity War stretches across different worlds, and involves multiple VFX shots, it must have definitely been a daunting task for switching between 3 different worlds, and to contain a screenplay that could well extend to many more hours, within a short span of less than 2 and half hours, is an achievement by itself, and Jeffrey Ford has made the impossible possible, with his crisp editing. With the tight screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, indicating of what's next from Marvel, while also keeping the thrills and twists in the right proportions, Avengers: Infinity War is a gripping entertainer.
Having taken over the directorial baton from Joss Whedon, it was always a huge task ahead for the Russo Brothers, as each of the Superheros who've assembled in this biggie, have a unique fan base and following of their own, over the years, with standalone movies for several heroes turning out to be some of the biggest money spinners of our times. Anthony and Joe Russo, have shunned the traditional way a superhero movie unravels, with the Superheros ultimately nullifying the evil, and treads in the unconventional and exciting path with the key being "No Superhero is Safe".With death possible for any superhero at any moment, Russo Brothers have delivered a brutally merciless screenplay that unleashes itself on screen in a powerful manner. Russo brothers have done a commendable job in uniting more than 25 superheroes, and while focusing on the previously less active Thanos to the maximum, they have given a perfect balance portraying the superheroes as well, and all this within the 150 minutes runtime, to perfection.
With Darkness constantly prevailing over the characterization of the destroyer Thanos with his evil plan, Russo brothers, maintain the equilibrium with necessary fun elements in the form of Groot/ Guardians of Galaxy team as well as Spidey, The makers have perfectly correlated the events that unfolded in previous Marvel movies as well, say for instance, the way Ragnarok united Doctor Strange, Hulk, Thor and Loki, and post-credit scene where Thor and Thanos's spaceships confront each other. With each and every moment and frame of the movie oozing sheer goosebumps and memorable moments, like the fate of Doctor Strange's time stone, Loki's stone, and how the Avengers unite forces to save the universe, Avengers: Infinity War is mass overloaded.
The biggest highlights of Avengers :Infinity War is that not any superhero is spared, as everyone including Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Black Widow, Black Panther, Hulk, Vision, and Falcon face extreme attacks, and none is depicted to be a superpower prevailing over the mighty giant Thanos, and secondly, the excellence of Marvel lies in the fact that over the past 10 years, they have brought together the whole Team of Avengers by slowly joining several of them together in different flicks, the best instance being Winter Soldier getting ready in Wakanda, as shown in the last Marvel release, Black Panther. The way the characters were established in previous flicks, made sure none of the characters required a character buildup or detailing, like how DC flunked with Justice League. Russo brothers care to even extend the sequences where Ironman wanted to get the shield from Captain America, in Civil War, and thus make it an extensive and complete affair for Marvel fans.
The emotionally impacting and charged up the finale leaves a huge mark on fans and audience in general, and the only pain the audience have to face is that they have to wait another year, for 2019 May, to witness the next installment of Avengers. Hats off to Anthony and Joe Russo for living up to the promise of delivering the best of entertainers, and the best of superhero ensembles ever, and giving a full-on treat for fans of Marvel, who had waited for 10 long years, for the ultimate Infinity War with Thanos. All said, Marvel strikes gold yet again with a massive flick, and this time around, the superheroes are sure to leave a lasting emotional and powerful impact on the audience.
