Story

After the back to back commercial successes Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle and Rampage, The Rock aka Dwayne Johnson is back on screen, this time with yet another action-packed thriller, collaborating with his Central Intelligence director Rawson Marshall Thurber, for Skyscraper, Here's team AP Herald's exclusive first on net Skyscraper review.

Will Sawyer(Dwayne Johnson) is a former FBI hostage rescue team leader and a war veteran who now does security assessments for skyscrapers. Terrorist Kingpin Kores Botha and team plan a heist in the Skyscraper 'The Pearl', and as a part of their plan, set fire to the building, and unfortunately, Sawyer is framed for the crime. Now, Sawyer has to prove himself innocent, while also put his skills to use, saving the people in the skyscraper, including his wife and children, besides also foiling the plans of Botha. How Will Sawyer does it despite troubles from all corners, is what the action-packed and thrilling Skyscraper is all about.

Star Performance

Dwayne Johnson is in his elements as usual, and as Will Sawyer, with his FBI instincts, and skills of assessing the safety of the buildings being a trait, is a perfect fit in the role, and entertains as always, with his stunning screen presence, Despite his characterization being that of a person with an amputated leg, Dwayne Johnson as Will Sawyer is believable with stunts perfectly choreographed. Roland Moller is menacing yet cliched, while Neve Campbell is adequate. The rest of the cast including Chin Han, Noah Taylor does not have much to do in this complete Rock Show.

Techinical Team

Music by Steve Jablonsky sets the tempo for a pacy and racy action entertainer, as the background score perfectly elevates the thrilling sequences, while cinematography by Robert Elswit captures the skyscraper and the threat it faces in all its glory, with perfect shots of Dwayne Johnson smashing the baddies in his very own inimitable style. After making several entertainers like Central Intelligence, director Rawson Marshall Thurber is back with an action entertainer, and this time around, he has relied totally on the action abilities of Dwayne Johnson rather than on coming up with a strong script.

Analysis

Having chosen a plot unintentionally resembling flicks like Die Hard and The Towering Inferno, Rawson struggles to keep the audience engaged, as every sequence is predictable and cliched, with Dwayne Johnson's onscreen charisma and impeccable and mighty personality which makes him smashing goons believable despite the physical challenge associated with his character. However, even the Rock could not make the audience do anything but have a loud laughter for the ridiculously shot skyscraper jump sequence which almost sums up the result of this otherwise decent popcorn entertainer. All said Rock's stunts and his macho persona rising to the occasion is the only saving grace of Skyscraper.
