After winning commercial as well as critical acclaim last year with her two flicks Velaikkaran and Aramm in contrasting characters, Lady Superstar Nayanthara is back on screens with debutant Nelson Dilipkumar at the helm of affairs, in Kolamaavu Kokila aka Coco, which has released today with huge expectations, Has the movie worked out? Here's team AP Herald's exclusive first on net Kolamaavu Kokila Review.

Kokila is from an ordinary lowed middle class family and her dad works as a security guard. Her sister goes to college and her mother is a practical woman and she runs the house. But unfortunate events take place when the family comes to know that she has lung cancer and they need 15 lakhs for the treatment. Kokila gets into drug-peddling business to get the money and what happens finally should be watched on the big screen.

Nayanthara as the middle-class girl Kokila looks demure and conveys expressions in a subtle manner. Her transformation from an innocent, poor girl to a drug peddler and a gun-wielding action girl due to circumstances have been effectively conveyed with her intense performance, and she excels in emotional sequences with her power-packed act.

Yogi Babu is a treat to watch as he casually generates genuine laughs with his body language and simple antics as well as one-liners. Saranya Ponvannan is the usual mother, and is a cakewalk for her, while the rest of the cast including RS Shivaji, Vinoth and Jacqueline are adequate.

Anirudh has excelled in his background score, and delivers a pulsating BGM for Kolamaavu Kokila, elevating her character to different levels. Of the songs, Kalyana Vayasu, Thittam Poda Theriyala, Thottakalaal, Kabiskaba are impressive. Sivakumar Vijayan's cinematography is top notch and it captures the dark mood of the movie, and the humorous areas in different tones, and presents the movie in a visually appealing manner. Nirmal's editing is taut.

Nelson Dilipkumar, who was earlier supposed to debut with the shelved Simbu - Jai starrer Vettai Mannan decades back, has got an opportunity to finally make his debut with the Lady Superstar Nayanthara herself and has made perfect utilization of the hard-earned opportunity.

Kolamaavu Kokila makes a tightrope walk for most parts, balancing the darkness and humour very well, and the director proves his mastery in lacing fun and comic situations even in an intense flick, and he has successfully extracted the best performance from Nayanthara, the best fun track from Yogi Babu who gets a prominent, full-fledged role, and the best score from Anirudh, all elevating Kolamaavu Kokila to the level of a biggie.

The first half moves at a brisk pace establishing the characters, and from the pre-interval block, and the interval bang, the movie catches fire, and the second half moves at jet speed, entertaining, and keeping the audience engaged at the edge of seats with action and humor beautifully balanced. With Nayanthara on top form, Kolamaavu Kokila is a gripping entertainer, that establishes the talent of Nayanthara to choose the right scripts.
