Krishna Jayanthi is a festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu of the ten avatars he took to destroy evil and establish justice and help the good.  This Krishna is one of the most loved incarnations of Vishnu, who is one of the main deities of Hinduism and is a part of the Trinity that consists of lords Brahma and Shiva, and Vishnu is the protector.

Krishna has been a mentor for many including Arjuna during Mahabharata, a warrior, a guiding teacher and a philosopher behind the thoughts established in sacred book of Geetha and is worshipped by millions of by followers and is considered to be the god of love and compassion. Krishna is a part of important Hindu literature works like Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavad Purana and the epic Mahabharata where he was with the Pandavas.




Krishna Janmashtami is immediately followed  by another festival Nadotsav, which commemorates the times when Nandagopan the dad of Krishna distributed gifts to his community to rejoice and celebrate Krishna’s birth. There are different unique traditions in different parts of the world to celebrate Krishna Jayanthi and most commonly celebrations begin with a tenure of fasting and followers sing bhajans devotional Hindu songs in praise of Lord Krishna.



krishna Janmashtami begins at midnight, a time when it was believed that  Lord Krishna was born and incarnated on Earth. Lord Krishna's favorite foods happen to be items made of  milk and curds as Krishna was a naughty kid who stole butter. A section of  Hindus  fast on the day  prior to Krishna Janmashtami, and eat immediately after the midnight celebrations. Numerous devotees and followers of the lord conduct Dances and sing songs praising and praying lord Krishna to gain his blessings, while at places plays will be conducted with events in life of Lord Krishna.
